How does Invisalign work?
The fastest way to a beautiful smile is a meticulous design process. Our orthodontist will design a customized digital treatment plan, using the proprietary 3D itero scanner and Clincheck™ software that allows precise tooth movement.
From the computer design, a series of custom-fitted clear aligners will be made just for your teeth! You wear each set of aligners for about one week, removing them only to eat, drink, brush, and floss. As you replace each aligner with the next in the series, your teeth will move, little by little, week by week, until they have straightened to the final position your doctor has prescribed.

Why we partner with Invisalign
There are many aligner manufactures in the market, such as Invisalign®, Sparks Aligners, 3M™ Clarity™, ClearCorrect®. Fellow Orthodontist partners with Invisalign® because it is the first and the leading aligner brand that allows our orthodontist to deliver the most efficient and predictable smile results.
The SmartTrack aligner trays of Invisalign® are made of multi-layer materials that mimics the flexibility of a conventional braces wire. It provides the optimal pressure to maximize tooth movement efficiency and predictability.
The flexibilty and thin profile also makes them easy to put in and remove, so they can be taken out for eating, playing sports, and brushing and flossing, allowing for a minimal impact on your lifestyle.
The Invisalign clear advantage

-
Proven results: With over 14 million patients treatment, the SmartTrack® material and SmartForce® features are clinically proven to optimize treatment outcome.

Comfortable: The aligners are thin and smooth to wear. No more irritating lips or pokey wires that you get with braces. Aligners are also removable, so you can continue doing all the things you normally would, from brushing and flossing to eating whatever you like.
-
Virtually invisible: Most people won’t even notice you’re going through treatment.
-
Convenient: Invisalign treatment is ideal for your busy schedule since you only need to visit our office every 12-16 weeks (compared to every 4-6 weeks with braces). We achieve this with the virtual care via the proprietary MyInvisalign app.
Clear aligners for kids?
At what age should my child see an orthodontist?
The American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) says that kids should see an orthodontist no later than age 7 for a first checkup. Most children have a mix of primary (baby) teeth and permanent (adult) teeth at this age, which lets orthodontists spot problems early on. Early intervention can not only stop problems from occuring, but it can also lead to treatments that are shorter and less invasive in the future.
There are a few clear signs that your child might benefit from seeing an orthodontist early on. Some of these signs are:
-
crowded teeth
-
prolonged thumb/finger sucking habit or pacifier use
-
severe dental protrusion (commonly known as overbite)
-
posterior cross bite (due to lack of jaw bone growth)
-
traumatic underbite
-
severe deep bite (causing tissue damage)
-
speech difficulties or lips
-
Mouth breathing or snoring (possible early signs of sleep apnea)
Making sure your child sees an orthodontist by age seven is important for their oral health and long-term results. At Fellow Orthodontist, Dr. Lin's treatment philosophy is to help children achieve optimal dental and skeletal growth in the least invasive way possible. This is best achieved when problems are detected early and corrected with simple treatments. We are here to help you and your child through the orthodontic journey. Contact us today to set up your child’s first orthodontic consultation and get started on the path to a lifetime of healthy, beautiful smiles.
Is my child a candidate for Invisalign?
Contrary to what you may have been told, clear aligners are safe for kids and can be a good alternative to braces,. Clear aligners are often combined with rapid palatal expander in phase I treatment for many children between the age of 7-10.
Clear aligners for kids work in the same way it does for teens and adults by moving your child’s teeth in small steps with a set of clear plastic aligners. When the teeth are in the right place with one clear aligner, a new one is put in its place to move the teeth even more.

Benefits of clear aligners for children
-
Hygiene: Aligners are simple to remove, allowing your child to clean and floss their teeth. Without braces and wires, food debris is less prone to become lodged between teeth and gums. This significantly reduces the risk of dental decay and gum disease during treatment.
-
Comfort: Clear aligners are meant to fit snugly since they are custom-molded to the shape of the teeth. There is no irritation or speech impediment.
-
No Food Restrictions: There are no food restrictions! Clear aligners may simply be removed before eating, allowing your child to continue to enjoy their favorite food such as granola, pizza, and popcorn.
-
No emergency visit: Imagine just having the braces put on, only to have to come back to the office a week later because of broken bracket or pokey wire? Well, that never happens with clear aligner! Clear aligners retain their form even when subjected to vigorous play. Sports guard can also be worn over clear aligners during sports activities.
-
Fewer Appointments: You are busy parents, and you probably dread having to bring your children back to the office every month for braces tightening. Unlike conventional braces, which require regular adjustments to reposition your kid’s teeth, clear aligners for kids require fewer orthodontic visits since your child may simply switch to a new set of aligners at home. Often, the number of office visits are reduced by more than 50% with clear aligner treatment.
Clear aligners for teens?
Is my teenager a candidate for Invisalign?
Growing up can be hard already for teenagers. The last thing they need is to endure years of braces to achieve a better smile. Teenagers can sometimes be self-conscious about how they look, and traditional braces may not always be the best choice (for some). That’s why we’re proud to offer clear aligners for teens as a discreet and effective alternative to conventional braces.
In our experience, teenagers often do better than adults when it comes to following instructions, and wearing their aligners to achieve a better and more confident smile!

Why many teenagers choose Invisalign over braces
Clear Aligners for Teens is a modern way to straighten teeth that uses a series of custom-made, almost invisible aligners to move and straighten teeth over time.
This modern approach is better than conventional braces in many ways.
-
Aesthetics: Clear aligners are almost invisible. This means teens can keep smiling confidently and not worry about how their braces make them look.
-
Comfort: Unlike conventional braces, which can irritate the lips, cheeks and gums, clear aligners are smooth and custom-fitted to individual tooth. There is almost zero discomfort with clear aligners.
-

Combined with our virtual care technology, the number of office visits are often reduced by more than 50% with clear aligner treatment.
-
Shorter treatment: With our decade of experience in clear aligner therapy, our patients typically finish treatment with clear aligners up to 6 months faster than they would if they had conventional braces. This is possible because we use artificial intelligence to help design and customize a treatment plan that optimizes treatment efficiency for every patient.

What is Invisalign and how does it differ from traditional braces?Invisalign is a modern approach to orthodontic treatment that involves computerized tooth movement design. Gone are the days of wires and brackets! The treatment involves a series of aligners that create gentle pressure on your teeth to guide them into the correct positions. Unlike braces that are visibly stuck on your teeth, aligners, when worn, are nearly invisible to others and can be taken out when you enjoy food or when you brush and floss. In other words, you continue to enjoy life while we work hard to straighten your teeth discreetly.
-
How much is Invisalign? The cost of the treatment depends on the complexity of bite problem and the treatment time. The good news is at Fellow Orthodontist, our Invisalign treatment fee is up to $2000 less than the average Invisalign cost in Manhattan. With decades of experience, we have optimized our clinical efficiency to lower the cost of treatment and pass on the savings to our patients! What is Invisalign attachments?Invisalign attachments are specially designed tiny tooth colored bumps that are temporarily placed on your teeth during treatment. It is designed to guide teeth movement and improve clinical efficiency. Attachments are vital for predictable outcome and shorter treatment time.
-
What conditions does Invisalign treat? This is a very common question we get asked all the time. In general, Invisalign does not treat your bite problem, your doctor does. In other words, the experience and skill level of your doctor determines if he or she can treat your bite problem with the modern Invisalign method. Our board certified orthodontists have years of experience treating all kinds of crowding and bite problems. In general, we can treat most problems that are traditionally treated with braces. These include severe crowding, crossbite, spacing, overbite, gummy smile and even skeletal disharmony. And of course, if your teeth shifted because you didn’t wear your retainers like your mom told you to, we can take care of you with Invisalign.
-
What does getting Invisalign involve? The Invisalign process involves creating a computer model of your teeth. At Fellow Orthodontist, we use an iTero scanner to make a digital “impression” of your teeth, without the need for the messy impression trays of the past. We use 3D x-ray that creates a full 3D model of your mouth, giving our orthodontist vital information when designing your treatment. With the help of AI algorithm, we will design the proper tooth movement sequence to create a series of aligner trays customized to your unique condition. Once your aligners are ready, you will be periodically provided with one or two sets to wear for an assigned period. Our orthodontist then carefully monitors your progress either in our office or by virtual appointments through the Grin app. During your treatment, the aligners may be removed for meals and in order to brush and floss. However, they need to be worn for 20 hours per day, minimum. This means that successful treatment relies on the patient to follow the orthodontist’s instructions and wear the aligner trays as required.
-
Is Invisalign right for me?Candidates for Invisalign are adults and teenagers who can commit to following the instructions required for treatment. As the clear aligners can be removed for eating, drinking, brushing, and flossing, the process heavily relies on the patient being dedicated enough to wear the trays for the required minimum of 20 hours a day. Invisalign is not suited for all situations. In severe bite problems such as extraction treatments or severe spacing problems, hybrid treatment involving Invisalign and partial braces may be required. Alternatively, BRIUS or traditional braces can be used to address severe problems.

How is Invisalign Teen different from Invisalign?Teenagers live hectic lives and are still at a point where they’re learning how to be responsible adults. With this in mind, Invisalign Teen has a few small differences intended to help make orthodontic treatment easier for them. The first difference is a color indicator on the aligner trays that makes it easier to track whether or not they’ve been wearing their trays for the proper amount of time each day. The indicator starts as a blue dot, progresses to clear, and eventually turns white, based on how often the tray has been worn. This makes it easier for the teen to be sure they’re staying on track. Also, because it’s easy for trays to get lost or broken in the busy life of a teen, the Invisalign Teen treatment program includes additional replacement aligners to account for this.
